Five grades, one standard
Every piece is graded by our experts before it is listed. The grade sits next to the price on every product page and means the same thing across the site.
Unworn
Never carried. May come with its tags, dust bag or box.
The closest thing to the boutique, without the boutique price.
Excellent
Carried a few times. Very light signs of use, which may show on the hardware or the handles.
At arm's length it reads as new; up close you may find a trace of its first owner.
Very good
RecommendedLight signs of use in a few places, the kind you notice when you look for them.
This is the grade we recommend, and the best deal on the site. The difference from Excellent is small and mostly visible up close, while the price difference is the largest step on the scale. You get the same house, the same model and the same craftsmanship, and keep a noticeable part of the budget. It is also our most common grade, so the choice is widest here.
Good
Carried regularly. Visible signs of use inside and out, structurally sound.
Usually the vintage models, where the character is part of the appeal.
Fair
Carried extensively. Heavy signs of use.
Rarely listed. When it is, it is a sought-after piece that is hard to find in better condition, priced accordingly.

Which grade should I choose?
Very good, for most people. It is our most common grade and the point where price and condition meet best. Unworn and Excellent are for those who want a piece that reads as new.
Does the grade cover smell or interior odour?
Yes. Interior and lining are inspected on every piece, and anything noticeable is written in the description.
